Leggett & Platt is Hiring a Service Manager Near Carthage, MO

We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for a Service Manager within our Machinery team at Porter International to help support our bedding business. Did you know we have been revolutionizing the sleep industry since 1883? That’s right! In fact, we hold the original patent on a spiral steel coil bed spring, filed way back in 1885. Since then, we have been an industry leader in guaranteeing you get the best sleep possible. If you join our team, your work will ensure people across the world have a little more comfort in their lives.

As a Service Manager will have the opportunity to make a difference in how we take care of our customers when it comes to the machinery they purchase. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by providing exceptional service to our customers. The team you will be working with is close-knit and collaborative.

So, what will you be doing as a Service Manager?

  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformities related to product, process and/or the system,
  • Identify and/or record any problems relating to the product, process and the management system,
  • Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels,
  • Verify the implementation of solutions,
  • Control further processing, delivery, or installation of nonconforming product until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
  • Assemble complete conveyor systems and/or sewing machine equipment, test, inspect, and package.
  • Install complete conveyor systems and/or sewing machine equipment per the customer specifications, at their desired location.
  • Identify, record, communicate, and help eliminate any problems relating to product, process, and installations of GSG products.
  • Load and unload trucks/containers at customer sites.
  • Fabricate and weld as needed.
  • Supervise, direct, and help on new and/or retrofit conveyor and/or sewing room equipment installations.
  • Assist customers through technical support.
  • Prepare expense reports.
  • Work with GSG industrial engineer and salesperson on plant installations.
  • Install basic electrical components such as DC motors, relays, solenoids, switches, and sub panels.
  • Install pneumatics components and interpret layouts.
  • Prepare trip reports.
  • Help maintain customer follow up.
  • Help perform final inspections of the conveyor systems and/or sewing equipment.
  • Perform other duties as requested or as deemed appropriate.
  • Consult with engineering relative to modifications or changes that may improve or enhance the quality of the products.
  • Assure all company policies and procedures are followed.
  • Ability to oversee outside contractors work in relation to GSG equipment.
  • Customize conveyor and/or sewing equipment as required in the field.
  • Schedule Technician visits to customer facility for installation, service or training.


To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Must have a good understanding of a mattress manufacturing process.
  • Good understanding of machinery, components, products, and customers.
  • Must have a good understanding of machine assembly and machine operations.
  • Excellent math skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Must exhibit good attendance.
  • Must exhibit good mannerism and appearance.
  • Previous supervisor or lead skills are preferred.
  • Ability to use and understand basic inspection tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret prints/drawings.
  • Must be able to supervise and direct others.
  • Clear understanding of tolerances and fitting parts.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Must have a cooperative attitude, necessary to work effectively with others.
  • Must be able to take the initiative and lead by example through the efforts of developing a team atmosphere.
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Willingness to work overtime when needed.
  • Travel approximately 50-60 percent of the time or when required.
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays if required.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of pneumatic layouts and components.
  • Must have a good understanding of electrical layouts and schematics.
  • Must have experience and knowledge in machine set-up and testing.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to obtain a forklift license.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair machine problems.
  • Must have welding experience in mig, tig, and arc.
  • Ability to use standard and complex measuring devices such as a transit.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Good understanding of programmable controllers, check inputs/outputs.
